For the fourth year in a row, ISACA has surveyed security leaders worldwide to determine their insights and experiences with key cybersecurity issues, ranging from workforce challenges and opportunities to the emerging threat landscape.

Part 1 of the report is now available and provides key insights into the current trends in the threat landscape. Among the findings:

  • Overall results confirm that cybersecurity remains dynamic and turbulent as the field continues to mature
  • Skill challenges remain but are better understood
  • Gender disparity is present but can be mitigated
  • It is predicted that budgets will increase at a higher rate than last year-64% of respondents indicate that their security budgets will expand
  • Confidence in preparedness is increasing but organizational alignment is inconsistent

For five years, ISACA has talked to cybersecurity leaders across the globe to discuss what they’re seeing and experiencing when it comes to hiring, budgets, threat landscape and more.

State of Cybersecurity 2019, Part 1 examines workforce issues and security budgets. Among the findings:

  • Despite significant efforts, the skills gap continues to widen.
  • Many organizations believe university graduates in cybersecurity are not sufficiently prepared.
  • Cybersecurity professionals perceive opportunities in the field very differently, depending on their gender.

Part 2 of the report is now available and provides key insights into the current trends in the threat landscape and defense techniques. Among the findings:

  • Cyberattacks are increasing but the methods employed remain relatively static
  • Motivation remains monetary and ransomware countermeasures are nearing ubiquity
  • Ransomware is being displaced, most likely by cryptocurrency mining
  • Threat Intelligence is prevalent—active defense is less familiar but effective
